Welcome to Year 6 – Year 7 September 2020

Welcome to the Bourne Community College.  I am delighted to say hello to you and I hope, very much, that your families are all safe and well. This has been a really unusual end to your life at primary school and our job is to try and help make your transition to your new secondary school as easy as possible for you. So, please do read on to get a glimpse of what life will be like when you join us in September.

Tutor Group

When you start Year 7 at the Bourne, you will be placed in a tutor group that you will be part of until the end of Year 11. Your form tutor will see you at the start of every day and will become a real source of support to you.  You will also be placed in a teaching group and you will stay in that group for most of your lessons. You will also have Mrs Tibbetts as your Leader of Year who, like all our staff, will have high expectations of you all regarding your achievement, behaviour and attendance and will work alongside all the other teachers to support and guide you to achieve your full potential with us.

High Expectations

We have the highest expectations of our staff and students. Whether on or off site, we expect all students to respect one another, their environment and the staff.  For students that meet our high expectations we have a Badge Reward System.  Positive behaviour and good progress are also regularly recognised through assemblies, awards, visits and other organised events throughout the year.

100% Attendance

We are also here to help you with your attendance.  Having 100% attendance will make sure you have the opportunity to get the best out of your education.  We also do a lot of activities at the beginning of the year to support you, so you get to know everyone in your form, their hobbies and interests and what subjects they like.  Secondary school is a chance to grab new opportunities and make new friends, so make sure you are here every day.

Expanding your learning

We have a wide range of fantastic learning opportunities for you here at the College. Each lesson has a Progress Bar for all activities and your teachers and  all staff work really hard to make sure you are supported at all times with different levels of challenge.  You will have homework set each week by your class teacher on our online portal, Go4Schools and your parents can also check your homework timetable too.

In Year 7 you will study many different subjects and the big difference from primary school is that you will have lots of different teachers. Some you will see every day and others just once a week.

Additional Support

If you need specific extra support, we have a whole team of staff who are here to help you and your learning because we want you to feel as though you are supported every step of the way at the Bourne.  We also know that sometimes extra help may be required and we pride ourselves on giving guidance and a listening ear whenever needed.

Extra-Curricular Activities

As well as learning opportunities we have a wide range of extra-curricular activities that you can join, with over 30 clubs running at lunch time or after school ranging from chess club to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, and a wide range of subject related clubs too, including our amazing STEM club.  After school we have a great homework club where you can go just to complete your homework or get support with any tricky tasks.

Uniform

At the Bourne Community College we pride ourselves on the smartness of the students who attend our school.  We expect all our students to wear the correct uniform and have the correct PE kit.

To September 2020

A reminder that your first day at the Bourne will be your Welcome Day on Friday 4 September and then one day only the following week – Friday 11 September and then every day from the following week.

Please do check our website during the holiday as you may find a couple of short videos to watch to tell you more about our school!

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of a fantastic school and am really looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our school community in September.  My final message to you is stay safe and well and enjoy your summer break with your family and friends.
