Dear Parents & Carers

I was very proud to lead our Remembrance Service this week and be accompanied by some wonderful Year 11 students who read out the poem ‘Poppies’ by Jane Weir to the whole school.

We assembled for the two minute silence to remember all those who have died and the whole school paid their respects at 11.00am on the 11 November.

We have a few updates this week concerning safeguarding, use of social media and safety on the roads and trains –

Road & Rail Travel
Several outside organisations will be coming in this half term to work with the students on road and rail safety.  They will cover the rules and guidelines on travelling by train and road safely.  Both are so important as so many students travel by train or walk and cycle to school and I am aware parents have been concerned too, along with members of our local community.

Social Media
We have had a few incidents reported of misuse of social media with TikTok.  Please be aware that there is a craze at present and students have been getting themselves into serious trouble through the inappropriate use of this online platform.

Netflix
We have also received a few updates recently regarding concerns on the Netflix site.  Children are being inadvertently exposed to upsetting or frightening age-inappropriate content.

We also have a page on the school website, that you may find helpful and we are also covering e-safety as part of the curriculum, with the students, this term as usual.

All the above is there to provide support for you as parents and I hope that you will find it useful.

Kind regards
