3rd April 2017
We are always mindful of the many challenges that young people face on a daily basis and we constantly strive to ensure that young people are ready and equipped to face those challenges and make positive, safe decisions.
At Bourne, we understand the behaviours and risks that are associated with alcohol, illegal drugs and so-called ‘legal highs’ and the effect these can have on the health and wellbeing of any young person. For this reason, we have invited ‘Drug Sense UK’ in to deliver a session on ‘Drug Awareness’ to each year group from Year 7 – 10 on Wednesday 3rd May 2017. The aim of this event is to educate young people and to offer strategies to manage the challenging situations that they may find themselves in, within the community.
We also hope to offer some advice and guidance to parents on how to support their children, particularly with regard to managing risk, staying safe and challenging negative peer influence. We are therefore inviting you to a parents’ advice evening from 5pm – 6.15pm on Wednesday 3rd May 2017.
All schools in West Sussex adopt a zero tolerance approach to alcohol, illegal drugs and legal highs and any students found in possession of these substances in school, or indeed under the influence of these substances, will be at risk of permanent exclusion.
I do hope you will be able to join us on the 3rd May at the times stated, for the parents’ evenings. To enable us to prepare, please could you complete the reply slip attached to this letter and return to your child’s student manager by Wednesday 26th April 2017:
Miss Baker – Years 7 & 8
Mrs Tibbetts – Year 9
Mrs Hudson – Year 10
I am sure you would wish to support us in our endeavours to keep young people safe and clearly informed, in order that they can make the right choices.
Mrs H Jewer
