KEY STAGE 4 CURRICULUM  2012/13

Key Stage 4 – students in years 10 and 11 follow personalised pathways

The cohort is divided  into 2 teaching bands

Students follow a compulsory core of English, Maths, Science, MFL, PSHE and PE.
English – 4 hours per week
All students study and are entered for GCSE English Language or GCSE English
The vast majority also study GCSE English Literature

MFL – 2 or 3 hours per week
The vast majority of our students study and are entered for at least one Modern Foreign Language at either GCSE or NVQ

Maths – 4 hours per week
All students study and are entered for GCSE Mathematics.
Some students are given the opportunity to study GCSE Statistics

Science – 3 or 5 hours per week
Over half our student follow double Science and 30 follow individual Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Additional subjects -  3 hours per week - are selected by students as part of their Key Stage 4 Pathways choices. Those students following Additional Science select 2 pathway subjects, and Single Science students select 3 Pathways subjects. For 2011 the Pathways subjects include:

Most subjects are working towards a GCSE, whilst Languages offer NVQ’s to support their students and Business, ICT and Outdoor Education offer BTEC First Certificate and Diploma routes.
