Did you know China will
soon be the number 1 English speaking country in the
world?
With this crucial fact
in mind we are really delighted that as a Specialist Languages
College with English our remit is to introduce the study of Chinese
as one of our Foreign languages at the Bourne !
Our new Chinese
assistant has just started teaching with us and is introducing her
culture and language to our students at K.S.3.
Vivian, as she is known,
is from Beijing and is keen to promote her home City with us and
share the excitement of the planning and preparations that are
going on for this summers’ Olympic Games with our students. Her
wish is to also to explain the differences between our two cultures
but also celebrate the similarities!
‘BE IN TO WIN’ TOP SCHOOL
CELEBRATES AT WESTGATE LEISURE CHICHESTER
Bourne
Community College has been named as winner of a competition to
raise its ‘whole school’ attendance levels. College students will
celebrate their success at a fun-filled activity evening hosted by
Chichester District Council’s Westgate Leisure Centre on Saturday
(May 17).
The ‘Be
In To Win – Winner Takes It All’ project, involving 4,091 students
from Years 7 to 11 in five schools throughout the Chichester
District, was organised in conjunction with the Chichester
Education Business Partnership, which is led by West Sussex County
Council.
The
project ran throughout the Spring Term 08 when two weeks were
earmarked to measure the pupils’ attendance, and schools then had
one month in which to raise their attendance levels to be in with a
chance of winning. The schools taking part were: Chichester High
School for Girls, Chichester High School for Boys, Midhurst Grammar
School, Bourne Community College and Manhood Community
College.
Bourne
Community College raised their whole school attendance by 1.4%, the
runner-up was Chichester High School for Girls. Bourne has been
issued with 150 pairs of VIP tickets for Saturday’s event which
runs from 7.30-9.30pm.
At the
start of the project, a free swimming voucher for Westgate was
given to every pupil from all schools taking part. Kevin McCoy,
Manager of Westgate Leisure Chichester said, ‘Chichester District
Council is delighted to have worked in partnership with Chichester
Education Business Partnership to help schools raise their
attendance levels. Saturday’s event will be great reward for the
Bourne students who did so well in this competition, and I am sure
they will make the most of the excellent facilities on
offer.’
Pat
Arculus, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Children and
Young People’s Services, said: "It's vital that young people do not
miss even one day of their schooling unnecessarily. This
competition is a fun way of getting that message
across."
The ‘Be In To Win’ event
is sponsored by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, based in
Chichester. To find out more about the Chichester Education
