Students are
continuously assessed through class based tests, end of module
examinations and coursework. Additionally there are annual
examinations where appropriate. Screening tests also take place to
identify students with special educational needs or who have
specific abilities.
At the end of Key Stage 3 (Year 9) students take the national tests
(SATS) in specified subjects. At the end of Key Stage 4 (Year 11)
normal assessment is through GCSEs. It is College policy to enter
Year 11 students for as many examinations as possible. Full
consultation takes place with students and their parents over
entries.
The College values its partnership with parents. There is a formal
system of reporting twice a year linked with a structured programme
of parents' consultation evenings. Of course we also value informal
contact and an open college approach ensures that consultation can
take place at other times and that concerns of the moment are
readily dealt with.
Achievement
It is the exception to recommend that a student is not entered for
public examinations. Significant numbers of students gain ten or
eleven higher grade GCSEs.
We have a structured programme of testing and evidence to date is
that large numbers of our students perform above expectation at the
end of Key Stage 4.
