| Your Child - Guidance
& Support
We believe that the form
tutor is the key to the encouragement and monitoring of the
student's academic and personal development within the College.
Tutor groups consist of about 26 students and normally remain
constant throughout the College, providing a supportive and caring
base group. The Bourne's "personal tutoring" scheme ensures that
students' academic and social progress is monitored through regular
one to one meetings with the tutor. It is usual for a tutor group
to remain with one tutor throughout the school. A Head of Year
co-ordinates the work of tutors. Any student with special
educational needs is given regular support by additional staff who
provide extra help in lessons. The more able students are given
differentiated learning materials to provide additional challenges,
and in some subjects may be set by ability. Each student receives
regular reports, and parents meet the teachers at consultative
evenings to develop a continuing dialogue about the progress of the
child through his or her time at Bourne Community
College.
